First frost on the ridge path
The ferns along the lower path have turned the colour of old paper. Above the tree line the puddles were iced over by nine, and the only sound was a woodpecker working somewhere down in the birches.

After two weeks of rain the moss is thick and the chanterelles have come up in rings near the old spruce stand. We took only what we needed and left the rest for the deer.
Every season the pack gets a little lighter. This year: one wool layer, a flask, a paper map and a notebook that has survived three summers.
